Description

 

Colorless transparent odorless liquid with little bitter,low toxic. 
It is the organosulfur compound with the formula (CH3)2SO. 
This colorless liquid is an important polar aprotic solvent that dissolves both polar and nonpolar compounds
and  is miscible in a wide range of organic solvents as well as water.
It has a distinctive property of penetrating the skin very readily, 
so that one may taste it soon after it comes into contact with the skin.
Its taste has been described as oyster- or garlic-like.

 

Applications

 

As an organic solvent in the manufacture of pesticides, dyes, fine chemicals, resins, plastics and pharmaceutical intermediates. Used in the extraction of aromatic hydrocarbon, acrylic fiber production macromolecule polymerization, paraffin hydrocarbon refining, diesel oil refining, a cleaning agent for electronics, gas absorption extraction of rare metals, antifreeze, the feedstock of hydraulic liquid, DMSO is also known for its curative properties. It can reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and carry drugs to the skin to a target area.
